Reprieve, 2006
This spring was nothing but rain. But one day there was a little break when the sun managed to sneak out just long enough for me to get outside. Calla lilies pop up all over the city, and like an open hand, they seem to stretch out, willing to accept whatever comes their way- be it water, sun, or a little bug looking for a safe place to hide.
When they are finished blooming, they fade, shrink up like a fist, turn brown and disappear. Their stems look like green stumps. If you cut them, within days, a new bloom will come to take its place. No wonder these flowers are also known as Easter Lilies.
